What To Look For In An Event Caterer

A wedding. An engagement. A birthday. A work function. Whatever the celebration, food is a big part of it.

The quality. The flavours. The appearance. All of these things matter at an event. So, when deciding on a caterer, here are five things you should consider.

1. Ability to handle your unique event

Spend time researching the kind of events a caterer has been involved in. Your event might be a work event, but they specialise in weddings. Consider your caterer’s speciality.

2. Flexibility with the menu

All caterers have a standard menu, but can they customise it? Can they adapt their menu to suit your specific needs? Choose a caterer that’s willing to go beyond the standardised menu options.

3. Ask about other services

List all the tasks that you need to tick off for the event. Some caterers offer extra add-ons. Ask what other services the caterer offers. Package deals are always easier, and often cheaper too.

4. The ingredients

Find out where the caterer gets most of their ingredients from. Is it local produce? Is it seasonal? Their answer should tell you a lot about the caterer and how fresh their food is.

5. Customer service matters

Being courteous, friendly and adaptable is important for catering teams. Don’t be afraid to ask about the wait staff. This will be the team of people serving your guests.

A good catering team will have one goal in mind – to satisfy the guests with incredible food.

So, make sure you’ve got a list of questions ready to ask, such as:

  • Do you use local food?
  • Do you specialise in certain types of food?
  • Does the catered meal come full service?
  • What’s the average price range? What are your packages?
  • Do I have much of a say regarding the menu?
  • Are you able to prepare special meals, such as vegetarian?
  • Do you have a separate menu for children?
  • How many wait staff will I need?
