When people think of travel, planes and exotic food often come to mind. And while these trips are great to take, they’re few and far between. But this doesn’t mean you are only ‘travelling’ if you fly.
Instead of waiting the whole year for that two-week holiday, use your weekends to take mini breaks throughout the year.
Taking short, regular holidays
You know that feeling when there’s a holiday to look forward to? This is one of the benefits of scattering little trips throughout the year. You can get away more and have more holidays to anticipate.
It’s not about where or how far you go, but rather about exposing yourself to new experiences. Smaller trips are easier to plan, especially around your work and family schedule.
The Adelaide Hills are the perfect setting for a weekend trip. You could tie it into an event you have in the Hills or simply come to have a holiday.
With Hahndorf as your base, you can see a lot in two days. Enjoy what the Hills has to offer on Saturday. There’s wineries, artisan shops, antique stores, bakeries, cute cafes and restaurants. From Hahndorf, you can see the Mount Lofty lookout and botanical gardens, Cleland Wildlife Park, and the quaint ‘villages’ of Stirling and Aldgate.
On Sunday, drive through Birdwood, taking the beautiful Chain of Ponds route back to the city. You could also take the road to Williamstown, then straight on to the Barossa Valley before heading home.
Or just head to the Hills without a plan! Soak up the beauty by just getting in your car and driving. There are many attractions within 20 or 30 minutes of Hahndorf, so you can easily fit in couple of short trips over the weekend.
Here are 10 of the top attractions in the hills:
The Barossa Valley
The Murray River
Cleland Wildlife Park
Mount Lofty Summit
Morialta Conservation Park
Waterfall Gully
Belair National Park
The Lane Vineyard
Lobethal Bierhaus
Prancing Pony Brewery
There’s something for everyone – nature and landscapes, arts and culture, driving journeys, family fun, wineries and cellar doors, food experiences, craft beer, cycling, history, hikes, markets and adventure.
