Don't become bridezilla with this advice for new brides

Just got engaged? Congratulations, you’re about to take on a whole new job: as a bride. But unlike a lot of women that have gone before, that ring doesn’t have to turn you into bridezilla.

When you’re in the midst of wedding planning, there are things you’ll inevitably forget. Let’s go through a few tips and advice to help you plan your wedding, without those mascara-stained tantrums (sorry, ladies). This will be one of the most important days of your life.

As you plan your wedding day, keep these five things in mind:

1. Plan a manageable budget

Going over budget and into debt causes many women to get stressed. It starts to put pressure on making the day perfect. Start with a list of must-have items and make another ‘would love to have’ list. If you save money on flowers, you can use that elsewhere in your budget, like on the honeymoon. Remember why you’re getting married – out of love, not to show it off for one day.

2. Know how many guests are coming

People tend to assume that you know they’re going to attend your wedding, especially close friends. Although they might be a definite, it’s good to get a firm confirmation on numbers as soon as possible. This way, you know how many people to plan for.

3. Block out ‘wedding’ time

If you’re working full time, you’re not going to be able to dedicate hours each day to planning. Be conscious with your free time and block out, say, two hours each week to dedicate to your wedding. If you can, coordinate this time so your partner is also free.

4. Count on your bridesmaids

Your gals are there for good reason – use them! Any time you have an issue, assemble your team and get them to help you. They’ll be able to take a lot of the weight off your shoulders during the planning stages.

5. Write down everything

Don’t rely on your memory. Record everything, from quotes through to your wedding vow notes. You’ve got a lot going on in your mind, so it’s easy to forget things. Help yourself and keep a paper (or email) trail of all the important things.
