The dress. The venue. The guests. As a new bride, you’ve got a lot of things on your mind. You’ll quickly find it’s like a full time job.
But don’t worry. We won’t let you turn into Bridezilla. We’re focusing on one of the biggest decisions all brides have to make – the venue.
Here are five things to look for in a reception venue.
1. The vibe
What sort of wedding vibe are you going for? Rustic. Vintage. Modern. Funky. Summery. Once you have a feeling for the type of wedding style you like, you can search for the venue that’s the perfect match.
2. The size
How big is the venue? Do you need to fit in 250 guests or 75? Start by having a guest count in the back of your mind. You might fall in love with a venue to find that it can only fit 60 people. If you find that you have a smaller guest list than first expected, that’s okay. Instead of paying for those extra plates, ask the venue if they can add a few more appetisers during cocktail hour instead.
3. The menu
Are you looking to serve specific food? Does the venue you like have a standard menu or can you customise it? Ask yourself these questions when deciding on the food to serve.
4. The logistics
Consider how far away the venue is from the majority of your guests. Of course, they’ll travel no matter how far it is, but to make life easier, think about distance.
5. The time of year
Will your wedding be in summer or winter? Maybe it’s a spring or autumn wedding. If it’s in winter especially, make sure you look at the venue’s indoor space to see whether it’s sufficient. You can plan for it to be semi-outdoors, but if the weather gives in, you’ll need a plan B.
Welcome the endless stream of kisses and well wishes after you’ve got engaged. This is a special, once-in-a-lifetime event. Enjoy the journey.
